Through regular forecasts, warnings, monitoring and advice spanning the Australian and Antarctic region, the Bureau provides one of the most fundamental and widely used services of government. The Bureau has multiple employment opportunities for qualified Meteorologists with operational aviation forecasting and briefing experience to join the teams in the Qantas Aviation Meteorological Unit in Sydney and the Airservices Australia National Operations Centre in Canberra. There will be non-ongoing and ongoing opportunities in our Sydney and Canberra offices. Professional meteorologists within the Aviation Meteorological Unit provide high quality operational weather advice and analysis to Qantas operations staff including the dispatch team to help facilitate optimum efficiency and safety within the airline. This includes weather information pertinent to aircraft operations around the world, but with a particular focus on domestic operations within Australia and on meteorological phenomena such as thunderstorms, severe weather events and any other weather which may have a significant impact on airline flight operations. Airservices Australia provides air traffic control services across the Australian FIR and the National Operations Centre in Canberra is responsible for the oversight of all Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) procedures and as such requires regular up to date weather information for managing airspace around Australia.
